Have you ever though about how many choices we make on a daily basis? For most of us, our first conscious thought of the day is usually whether to stay in bed or not. From that moment the rest of our day is spent making choices, and while most of these choices are mundane, insignificant, run-of-the-mill choices, sometimes the decisions we make can have lifelong consequences.
The chronic drug addict thinks about the decision he made the first time he chose to get high. The critically ill AIDS patient thinks about the choice they made to have casual unprotected sexual intercourse. The death row inmate thinks about the choice he made to shed innocent blood. These are but a few of the choices that people make that can affect them for the rest of their lives. But, as regrettable and horrible as these are, they are actually worse choices we can make in this life.
The examples cited above all instances of the wrong choices that condemn persons in this life but the choices we make that can condemn us not only in this life but in the life to come.
The Scriptures are littered with examples of persons being given the option to choose. In many instances God Himself gives the option; choose that which is permanent or that which is temporary, that which brings blessings or that which brings cursing, that which brings life for that which brings death
In the book of Deuteronomy 30:11-20, God, through Moses, told the Jews who are about to inhabit the promise land, CHOOSE obedience or disobedience, life or death. In Joshua 24:15, Joshua told God's people of his day, CHOOSE God or idols, prosperity of famine. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus tells us all to CHOOSE destruction or life, the broad road or the narrow way.
The same choices stand before us all. Today, and for the rest of our lives, we get to choose, what will your choice be?
