Kingstown Church of Christ (KCC), on Friday April 17, concluded six nights of gospel meetings at Upper Kingstown Park (UKP), about 15 minutes walk from KCC's meeting place. [MAP BELOW] Despite the possibility of inclement weather and the occasional light showers, residents in the immediate vicinity were able to hear acapella singing and challenged by the proclamation of God's word. Three speakers equally shared the six nights and spoke on a range of topics that addressed man's greatest problem and God's great scheme of redemption.
On Sunday night, Edley Dunbar, evangelist at Retreat Church of Christ, laid the foundation with his presentation of The Gospel. He pointed out the significance Jesus placed on the preaching of the gospel throughout the world because it is God's power unto salvation. To be absolutely clear that everyone listening understood exactly what the gospel is, Dunbar demonstrated from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 that the gospel speaks of the good news of Christ's death, burial and resurrection to pay the penalty for man's sin and offer the hope of eternal life to all who obey Him. In addition to the invitation to obey the gospel, a warning was also issued that cautioned the perversion of the gospel. On the second night, Dunbar answered the purpose of Christ's coming to the earth in the first century with a message entitled, Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners. The message focused on the person of Jesus Christ, whose obedient life, atoning death and triumphant resurrection is at the center of the gospel.
Tuesday night saw the first change in speaker with host evangelist, Elton Lewis, speaking on the topic, The Soul that Sinneth. Lewis presented biblical evidence of the existence and value of an immortal soul that would spend eternity in one of two places. He outlined the seriousness and severity of sin. Understanding the value of one's soul, Lewis used his message on Wednesday night, Making it as Sure as You Can, to urge listeners to ensure that they give the necessary heed to ensure that their lives are in harmony with God's will. He examined the many ways in which individuals can be deceived in thinking they are saved based on feelings, false doctrines, following the majority, etc.

On the final two nights of the meeting (Thursday and Friday), the responsibility of declaring God's word fell upon Rohan Hector, evangelist at Richland Park Church of Christ. Getting straight to the point, his message on Thursday night was succinctly titled, Satan. In it, Hector introduced the greatest enemy of God and man and described the many devices used to seduce man into disobeying God. On the meeting's final night, Hector returned to give a stirring message of hope entitled, We Have a Choice. He used the opportunity to illustrate God's amazing demonstration of love to reconcile us to Himself even after we have chosen to reject Him.
Over the course of the six nights, prayers were offered up by an number of brothers from Kingstown and supporting congregations. Support came on various nights from brethren at Barrouallie, Biabou, Georgetown, Retreat, Richland Park and Spring Village. Equally supportive were the attentive residents of the area, pedestrians and drivers who accommodated the minor disruptions to traffic, and police authorities who allowed the use of the amplified public address system. Special mention must be made of the gracious hospitality of the Jacobs family, who provided electricity and shelter.
Though their were no immediate conversions throughout the week, there was one response asking for prayers by a brother who was recently arrested and shortly released. Additionally, the fact that the seed of the word was spread in the area despite the challenges presented by the weather, noisy traffic and limited parking, is a demonstration of God providing a way where there seemed to be no way. Efforts are on the way to return to the area for water the seeds that have been planted during the meeting with the prayerful expectation that God's would bring the increase.
