By Jeana Jack (Kingstown Church of Christ, SVG) Kingstown Church of Christ hosted its first ever media workshop on March 14th, 2013. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the present condition of existing media programs and to share ideas for their improvement and the integration of new media. |
Four other congregations were represented at the workshop. These included Richland Park, Georgetown, Retreat and Spring Village. After the opening prayer, Joel H. Jack give some introductory remarks of the importance of the media in evangelism.
The workshop received reports from Joel Richards, host of the Search for Truth broadcast on NBC Radio; Elvis Daniel (Georgetown Church of Christ), host of The Bible Speaks on SVGTV; and Joel H. Jack, co-host of Scriptural Search on WE FM. Mention was also made of The Full and Abundant Life, hosted on Cross Country Radio by Dr. Claudius A. Davis, who is based in the USA. A special financial report was presented by Jack Gellizeau (Spring Village Church of Christ).
Several comments were made concerning the existing media efforts. Participants felt that the church needed to make better use of those programs. A suggestion was made for more content coordination among the programs and for each to promote the others. Some members expressed the view that the church needed to make its presence felt in the newspapers. It was also pointed out that there were many secular interactive programs on which Christians could make their voices heard on societal issues.
A presentation was made by Jamali Jack on new media and its applications to the church and her evangelistic efforts. Jack, the Chief Creative Director of iMaculate iMagez, has worked in the media for over 16 years and has a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Questions were raised about the possibility of setting up a website and using social media platforms such as Facebook. It was noted that maintaining an online presence would require proper organization and long term commitment among congregations and members.
A vote of thanks was given by Ronnel Rodney (Richland Park Church of Christ) followed by a closing prayer by Alwyn Mandeville.
The workshop was punctuated by a delicious meal provided by brethren, Lucinta Mandeville and Denzil and Lucy Fraser.
