By James Stephenson (Biabou Church of Christ)
On August 6, 2017, the church at Biabou hosted a nation-wide fellowship, at the Adelphi Secondary School, as part of their 50th anniversary activities which also included a six-night gospel meeting. It was a very special occasion because we not only have local brethren but also visiting brethren from overseas. It was like a homecoming event for many of our overseas visitors.
Elliot C. Glasgow delivered the very timely message, Becoming a People of Excellence. He did a marvelous job. His wife, Avis, accompanied him on this trip. Having Glasgow speak at that event was significant because it was himself and James Stephenson who started this work in Biabou and Brighton 50 years ago.

In that audience was Ephraim France who lead songs, their first convert at Biabou, and Cornelius George, the first at Brighton. George is now serving the Lord as evangelist in St. John’s, Antigua. We were also blessed to have Samuel Alexander, his wife, Felecia, and daughter, Samantha, with us. Alexander had served at Biabou from around mid-1980’s to June 1990.
Other visitors included Rhonda Vaughan, daughter of William Ralph Wharton, late American missionary to St. Vincent from 1965 - 1969. Rhonda was here to receive a plaque from the Biabou church on behalf of her late father. The work in St. Vincent and Grenadines was a result of the vision, wisdom, hard work and leadership of Wharton (Insert) and the men he trained during the early years. Later, because of his efforts, St. Vincent became a ‘launching pad’ to take the gospel to other Caribbean islands.

Two other visiting brethren who graced us with their presence were Trae Webb and Ryan Taylor from Georgia, in the USA. Trae and Ryan were getting their first taste of what a nation-wide fellowship is like for us in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The church at Biabou is indebted to the men and women who so ably served to establish, nurture, and develop the work of Christ in that location as well as at Brighton. Brighton Church of Christ has also been a highlight of the anniversary events as both congregations share a similar history.
Serving at Brighton for several years now is Bertram Pompey, who like James Stephenson, had the privilege of serving at both Biabou and Brighton congregations in a full-time or part-time capacity for extended periods. May the work of the Lord continue to move forward in full assurance of faith and never lose sight of its mission to “seek and to save that which is lost” (Luke 19:10; Matthew 28:18-20). We look forward, with anticipation, to the next nation-wide fellowship.
