By Jamali Jack (Kingstown Church of Christ)
Kingstown Church of Christ concluded three nights of revival meetings held from February 16-18, 2014. The revival's theme coincides with the congregation's theme for 2014 - Building Upon the Foundation of Christ. The meetings began 7PM nightly and were attended by brethren from other congregations throughout the island including Barrouallie, Brighton, Georgetown, Retreat, Richland Park and Spring Village. The meetings were also attended by a number of visitors.
As a precursor to the revival, Marvin Fraser preached the sermon, Jesus - More Than Just a Foundation, for the Sunday morning worship service. On Sunday night, which saw the revival's highest attendance with well over 100 congregants, Edley Dunbar launched a Christian call for coorperation with the message, Labourers Together with Christ. The main text for message was taken from 1 Corithians 3:9. Dunbar is the evangelist at the Retreat Church of Christ and cohost of Scriptural Search, an interactive radio program which airs Tuesdays from 6-7PM on WE FM.

On the second night of the revival, Rohan Hector continued the stirring of the hearts and minds of those in attendance with the message, No Other Foundation, taken from 1 Corinthians 3:10-11. The concluding message, Build Well, in Success or Failure, taken from 1 Corinthians 3:12-15, left the congregants eager for an extended revival. Hector is the evangelist at Richland Park Church of Christ and host of The Bible Speaks which airs Sundays from 12:30-1PM on SVG TV. So palpable was the fellowship during the week that many brethren lingered long after the meeting concluded. |

What is a Revival?
According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the word revival |rɪˈvʌɪv(ə)l| is a noun. It is defined as (1) an improvement in the condition, strength, or fortunes of someone or something. For example: an economic revival. More applicable to the above article, an additional definition to the word revival is a reawakening of religious fervour, especially by means of evangelistic meetings. Example: the revivals of the nineteenth century.
In very simple terms, the word revival suggests bringing something that is now dead or dying, back to life. The verb form (revive) can be found 7 times in the Bible. It derives from a Hebrew word (chayah) that contains in its definition, to live, whether literally or figuratively; causatively, to revive: keep (leave, make) alive, certainly, give (promise) life, (let, suffer to) live, nourish up, preserve (alive), quicken, recover, repair, restore (to life), revive, (God) save (alive, life, lives), surely, be whole.
