By Jeana Jack (Kingstown Church of Christ, SVG) Kingstown Church of Christ held its 2013 Vacation Bible School from August 5th - 9th. The theme for this year was ‘Neighbours for Jesus’. Over 100 children attended the classes daily, with the attendance peaking at 140 on the final day. Most of them live in the surrounding areas of Paul’s Avenue, Block 2000, Lodge Village, Redemption Sharpes, Green Hill, Largo Height and other areas. |
Coordinator of the program Elsworth Richards said he was pleased with the large turnout. “This year surpassed my expectations by almost 50 children, so we must be doing something right.” Commenting on the relevance of the theme, Richards said, “We want to get our kids to be loving, look out for each other’s welfare, and not be hostile against each other.
The theme centered around the bible story of the Good Samaritan. The participants, ranging from age 2-18, discussed several topics including how to love neighbours, forgiveness, and showing kindness, patience and tolerance. They also memorized bible verses and made craft related to the theme.
One of the teachers, Shevern Richards, described VBS 2013 as “a momentous week where I had new experiences that will definitely last a lifetime. VBS was very challenging, having to deal with children with different interests and moral beliefs. However, it was such a blessing to impart God’s word to the young minds.”
The Vacation Bible School is held annually with the intent of keeping students meaningfully occupied during the long summer break from school.
