Tribute to Catherine Quow
Catherine, better known among us as ( T ), was a faithful and dedicated member of the South Edmonton Church of Christ, Canada. Sister T attended church services and sat beside her niece Francelia, in their regular and favorite seat, as most people do when they attend a congregation for a period of time.
We could count on T to be present when we met at my home on Sunday evenings for devotionals. Sometimes, it was just T, Roy, Sandra and RoZandra that were in attendance. She did not complain or refuse to come.
Catherine was humble in spirit. She loved people. She was willing to assist when things were needed. She was kind and had a giving spirit. She was a disciplinarian.
When we had fellowship meal after church services, she cooked the regular Caribbean food, fried or baked chicken and rice. T also enjoyed fried fish, ginger beer and St Vincent bakes.
She had a lovely Soprano voice singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to the glory of God. When we sang, “What a friend we have in Jesus,” T and Francelia would add the St Vincent version. It was a spiritual treat to hear aunt and niece blending their voices in singing glory to God. It just reminded us how God has blessed Caribbean people with lovely voices.
T was helpful to our family when we had to be out. She baby sat our daughter RoZandra. She was part of our family. We could count on her to help.
She had health problems but that did not stop her from being faithful and committed to God, church services and activities. She was always present, Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night.
Catherine often spoke of Bro Jack. If she saw something that was not looking right, she would remark, "That could not happen with Bro Jack." She often spoke of her days in the church of Christ in St Vincent. She was in Canada, but St Vincent was in her blood.
Sister T was a beautiful person to have in our company. We will miss her in this world but we look forward in meeting with her in heaven on the judgment day. She is gone to rest in the Lord, but she is not forgotten. May God grant her eternal rest and her soul rest in peace.
