Jennie Bain Wilson was born in 1857, on a farm near South Whitley, Indiana. Afflicted with a spinal condition at age four, Wilson spent her life in a wheel chair. She never attended school, but was educated at home. Though she only lived to be about 56 years old at the time of her death around 1913, she is said to have written over 2,200 texts. Of the 683 songs whose lyrics are attributed to her, only one is found in our Songs of Faith & Praise hymnbook - Hold to God's Unchanging Hand (#613).
VERSE 1: Time is filled with swift transition / Naught of earth unmoved can stand / Build your hopes on things eternal / Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
REFRAIN: Hold to God’s unchanging hand / Hold to God’s unchanging hand / Build your hopes on things eternal / Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
VERSE 2: Trust in Him who will not leave you / Whatsoever years may bring / If by earthly friends forsaken / Still more closely to Him cling.
VERSE 3: When your journey is completed / If to God you have been true / Fair and bright the home in glory / Your enraptured soul will view.
OMITTED IN HYMNBOOK: Covet not this world’s vain riches / That so rapidly decay / Seek to gain the heavenly treasures / They will never pass away.
